Mindfullmess

The film is a camera-less animation created directly onto 16mm film, worked on a light table and in the darkroom.
The work explores the sensory experience of a neurodivergent mind. Thoughts appear, collide, override one another, and slip away before they can be grasped. Intense cognitive processes are inseparable from a state of bodily excitation, surrender, and immersion.
In the loop of hyperfocus, the concept of time dissolves. Bodily needs—such as eating and rest—become secondary.
In the visual material, the central elements are animational thinking and rhythm. The piece is edited to an existing track by Lau Nau. This approach has also been the starting point in my earlier works Kutsun itseäni terveeksi ("I Call Myself Sane") and Mikä aika on? ("What Time Is?"). It creates a different kind of dialogue between image and sound than a situation where the sound is composed specifically for the visuals.
The foundation and final outcome of the work are not intellectual but physical, kinetic, and aesthetic.
